Oh my God! Episode Three is Good!

Growing up, I was one of those people. The ones who knew far too much about things that happened in a galaxy far far away. I knew all about Boba Fett's mandalorian armor. I knew that Yoda's cane was also called a gimer stick. I could quote lines with the best of them. I was a Star Wars geek in the truest sense of the word. After episodes one and two, I'd lost all interest in the series. I didn't care what the name of the Amidala's ship was or who was the leader of the trade federation was. They sucked too bad to maintain interest. And their suckiness hurt. It hurt because I wanted to like them so much, but couldn't bring myself to do it. It felt like Lucas left the original fans out to dry and pandered to children. At the time of the first trailer for episode three, I was convinced that I wasn't going to see it opening day. "I don't care anymore" I told myself. A couple of good reviews later, I'm back in that line again, like a fool, convinced that it will be the greatest movie ever. As good as Revenge of the Sith was, it doesn't redeem the first two. It suffers from some of the same problems as the first two movies (dialog, innapropriate slapstick), but it was good enough to get me interested again, and was no easy feat. All in all it was a fitting end to a mostly excellent series that dominated a portion of my adolescent life, so it feels good to finally have closure. It remains to be seen whether either of the new TV shows will be any good, but considering that Lucas probably won't write the scripts, I'm gonna be holding my breath in anticipation.
